Course Description
Year 7
THE GROWTH OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE; MEDIEVAL REALMS 1066-1500The Year 7 pupils have studied the growth and extent of the Roman Empire; Roman Society and Government. Pupils have been familiarised with the events which `bridge` the Roman occupation with the coming of the Normans 1066; the impact of the Norman Conquest; the changing relationship of the monarchy with the church, barons and people are explored together with features of Medieval society.
Year 8
The Making of the United Kingdom 1500-1750; Black Peoples of America. In Year 8 pupils have studied features of British history in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. This has included an investigation into religious differences in England; the diversity of English society and the power of the Monarchy and its relationship with Parliament and the people.
Year 9
In Year 9 pupils have considered the causes of the First World War, the changing nature of warfare and its impact on the lives of civilians. An investigation has been carried out into the rise to power of the National Socialist Workers Party in Germany, the creation of a totalitarian state and the causes and effects of the Second World War
Year 10
In GCSE History pupils have studied the origins and development of the alliance system; the causes of rivalry between the European powers and the changing nature of warfare after 1914. Pupils have examined in detail the connections between the conditions in Weimar Germany and Hitler`s rise to power; the development of totalitarianism and its impact on Germany.
Year 11
In GCSE History pupils have studied the origins and development of the alliance system; the causes of rivalry between the European powers and the changing nature of warfare after 1914. Pupils have examined in detail the connections between the conditions in Weimar Germany and Hitler`s rise to power; the development of totalitarianism and its impact on Germany. A depth study has been carried out on the internal development of the United States of America between the years 1919 until 1941.
